The Salvation Army work in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands commenced as an outreach from India. The work was primarily aimed at leper colonies.

The Star of India, flag of Indian Empire before 1947. The Star of India was replaced by the Tiranga (Indian Tricolour) after Independence on the 15th of August 1947 in the independent Republic of India.

When the Japanese forces occupied the islands in the Second World War the work was closed down (1942 - 1945).

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India, and now salvationist work depends on the India Northern Territory.
