Austria

The Salvation Army began its work in May 1927 in Vienna, the capital of the old Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. At the administrative level, the movement was affiliated to the German Salvation Army Headquarters in Berlin.
In 1935 the Austrian Salvation Army was incorporated in the Hungary Territory. At this time it was active in Vienna and Linz.
In 1940 the territory was affiliated again to the German Salvation Army. During the national-socialist regime and World War II the work developed with great difficulty.
Since 1947 Austria and Switzerland are one territory. On the 8th May 1952 The Salvation Army is acknowledged officially as "Verein der Heilsarmee" ("Association of The Salvation Army") by the Austrian parliament.
In Austria there is one Corps and one Home. The work is supported financially and personally by Switzerland.
