Banwell corps opened fire on 17th December 1882. The hall was in Cheapside, which is now called West Street, approximately where the current war memorial stands.
The late Mrs G.M. Winstone, late of the Bell Hotel, The Square, Banwell, described how vilage children used to creep into the Citadel and sit at the back of the building. This was in the period just after the First World War.
