Elijah Cadman
From Sawiki
Elijah Cadman, known as the converted chimney sweep, who had been cleaning chimneys since the age of six, was born in Coventry in 1843.
He was converted to Methodism and avidly taught the junior Sunday School class, but being illiterate, it was not easy to teach the alphabet! In the event he relied upon correct answers from the majority as the means of learning for both himself and the rest of the class.
He became an evangelist and, joining the Christian Mission, he took charge of Hackney Station in August 1876.
Elijah soon declared himself Capatain in the war against sin, a battle he fought tirelessly until he was promoted to Glory on the 12th. December 1927 at the age of 84.
