OnFire Big Band
From Sawiki
Big Band jazz in itself is infectious. But when you add the gospel of Christ to it and you have a combination that's guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.
The OnFire Big Band of The Salvation Army Sydney Congress Hall Corps consists of 17 Christian musicians who have a love of jazz and a desire to see people won for Christ.
OnFire is a means of presenting a contemporary form of worship, performing music that is appealing to people of all ages - 30s swing, 50s rock, 80s funk to the contemporary present - music to cater for all. Most of the music has a strong Christian message associated.
The Band performs music written by local musicians including our own pianist Nicole White. Formed in the early 90s, the Band performs as an aid to worship at the Congress Hall Corps.
In the last 3 years the band has played in Army concerts, the Manly International Jazz Festival, shopping centres, schools, RSL clubs, Sydney tourist attractions, other churches, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres as well as interstate visits to Melbourne and Brisbane.
In 2000, OnFire performed with Australian jazz legend James Morrison and released their first CD. On Fire's first CD brings with it a fantastic representation of these musicians and is a great introduction into the world of On Fire.
The CD includes many feelgood songs and includes arrangements by band members themselves. Jazz singing from Lee Prussing backed up with a tight rhythm section and powerful front line guarantees this will be at the topof your jazz collection.
An explosive performance by the members of On Fire. Add to this the soulful tones of Idea of North and the skills of virtuoso trumpeter James Morrison and you end up with a great CD of live tracks that encompasses the essence of a live Big Band.
