The Colours
From Sawiki
Just a tiny scrap of ribbon, though faded now and torn,
Deprived of all the beauty it showed when first 'twas worn;
The wearer faced much ridicule, but this he surely knew,
He'd promised to be faithful to the Yellow, Red and Blue.
Oh, no, it was not easy then to show that one belonged,
To a band of folk who sought to save and help those who'd been wronged,
In dangers oft and fightings, and persecutions too
Still sticking to their colours, the Yellow, Red and Blue.
What tales of brave endeavour ere achievement came his way!
Full many had to stand and watch while others knelt to pray;
For you could never guess those days what roughs might plan to do
In harassing the wearers of the Yellow, Red and Blue.
With flags and banners flying, with bands we marched the street,
And smiling faces welcome and friendly voices greet,
the Army as it passes - pray God will be as true
As we fight to show the world the Yellow, Red and Blue.
